Netflix Fridays

I love Netflix and I want to share with all of you all the awesome films I've seen. Every Friday, I will be sharing one or two movies that I suggest you see over the weekend. I will only post those that are available through instant streaming. I'm sure you have an idea how hard it is to scour thousands of movies available on your fingertips and find the very few gems hiding beneath the junk so I will make it easier for you.I have come across movies that are so bad that it drove me mad and some that are instant classics.

Here's a movie I am watching right now that I'm not even done watching and yet I am already recommending it. Yes, it's that good!

It has been sitting patiently in my Instant queue but today I've decided to finally give it a chance. It's a Bollywood film and it's my first and I love it! I now have a great appreciation for Indian films. No wonder they produce so much in a year! It's because they can and they are good at it!They also remind me of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Philippine movies.
This is a family drama that must be seen by the whole family specially the kids! I know they would love this movie and might even probably make them cry. My kids often do cry in movies and I know they would cry when they see this over the weekend. I don't want to ruin it for you so I won't say much, you really have to see it for yourself.
If you don't have Netflix then this is the time to get one! I've been subscribing to Netflix since they began the company in 1999, not continuous but I remember when they only had a a thousand members and quite a few selections.
I've always been a movie fanatic. My dad who loved movies has influenced me greatly. When I was a small child, I rarely played outside with the neighborhood kids. I was often seen inside the house curled up on the couch watching a ton of movies all day (or playing video games). I was allowed to watch anything I wanted with no restrictions (back then people were not really strict about these things)There were a lot of movies that has scarred me to life that's why I don't let my kids see movies that has a lot of sex and violence in it. Some movies can be too sick and some people think that a movie must be controversial to be awesome but that is not always the case. In fact, to me, that is rarely the case. I've seen so many movies that has received outstanding reviews because it was controversial and turned out quite disappointing to me. And there are some that are just, well, plain sick... Sick movies come from sick minds, where else would they come from? Example: Hostel. I swear, that movie is just one of the sickest movies I've seen. I have seen a lot of movies that are like that and I regret it so much. I don't think that should be considered entertainment and if it did entertain you then, I'm sorry but that is just plain crazy.
Well, I hope you like this movie that I've recommended. Please do share your thoughts about it after you've seen it! I would love to hear what you think about it.

Muffin Love

This was what we ate after the kids came home from school. Seascape strawberry muffins and some with Nutella. I used Jiffy cornbread mix (you can use any muffin mix) bake it and before it finishes baking, put some strawberries (or blueberries) on top then put it back in the oven to cook a little bit more.

I used organic seascape strawberries from the Farmer's Market and they are sooo yummy. They are very tiny and for me, easier to eat than the gigantic ones. I also threw some in a bottle of cold water and I love the hint of flavor it gave the water.

Our weekend was awesome. I got to go on a thrifting spree, ordered some pretty things that will soon be available on the website and got to hung out with friends in Koreatown in downtown Los Angeles.

Then we went to a Korean cafe for dessert and coffee...

As I promised, though super late because I've been sick, here are the photos of what my mister bought me from Bottega Louie.


These boxes are impossible to throw away!


The best macarons I've ever had! They only use natural flavorings from all over the world.

These cupcakes are the prettiest cupcakes I've ever seen in my life. They have super tiny macarons on top and the crystal sugar is just divine. The cupcakes are a bit dry and spongy (I like them moist and heavy) but I really enjoyed them. Some of them has filling inside and the natural flavoring is so much better than the artificial ones. My favorite is the chocolate with caramel filling and the lemon ones with candied lemon peel on top. Those thingies are just amazing!

Hey Angelino! You only gave me 11 macarons instead of 12!!! Next time I'll watch closely while you box them up. Lol.

My Birthday part 3

This is my favorite restaurant, Bottega Louie in downtown L.A.! I've heard that this is the third best restaurant in the entire United States and the number one in the whole of Los Angeles. It's so beautiful inside like your in a restaurant in France. It reminds me of Laduree. Specially the stacks and stacks of pretty pastry boxes and the macaron towers. The only complaint I have of the place is it that it's soooo loud inside (I blame the super high ceilings but eventually you get used to it and then your ears adjust and then you eventually hear the person you're talking to).

So pretty 'no?

My mister hid something in the mail box but I did not check the mail box the whole day. And then he handed me it instead. It was an invitation...

He waited all day for me to check the mail box but I didn't. He handed me all the mail but I still didn't check them, so he handed me the actual letter.

It was at my most favorite restaurant. And I was ecstatic.

My Birthday part 1

It's 11:45 pm now, my birthday is almost over. I had a blast. My kids are awesome! They wrote me long letters and they surprised me with flowers, balloons and cute stickers!

I made truffles and egg salad sandwiches and we had picnic at the park. It was so much fun!

It's that time again when I turn a year older and hopefully a lot wiser. I sit here on the couch in the living room as I reflect on how my thirty something years were like. It was bittersweet. I am in a better place now but I know things can still get much, much better. I'm not asking for a lot,what I'm asking for is so simple and yet seems so difficult to have. That wish got me in so much trouble but what matters is that I have learned a lot and those mistakes made me a better person.
I know there are things that happen to us that we have no control of but one thing that we do have control of is how we feel inside. Today, I choose to be happy, no matter what. I will spend this day with people who matter to me most and will only think of positive thoughts.

I am grateful for all the years that God has given me and for all the years that are yet to come. I am thankful for everything that I have and for everything that I can and will have. Life is beautiful even if sometimes things don't happen our way, being alive is enough. Someone told me that pain is the evidence of life. I agree but so is joy and love amongst other things but all these I am thankful of because it only means one thing... I am alive.

Happy Birthday to me.

We went to thrifting and had our favorite froyo. Don't get me wrong, I don't think all this doomsday talk is funny. I was so scared so I pre occupied myself of things that I love doing just so I won't die from a heart attack. I believe in rapture and all that but I guess what I'm scared of really is the predictions and possibilities of disasters. If you are a single woman who hates life then that might be a different story but If you are a mom who loves life then disasters are just frightening because we love our family too much.

Well, it's 7:37pm now, I really hope that everything stays calm as it is. I don't know about you but whatever Mr. Camping's intentions were, I take this day as a second chance on life. Now let's live life to the fullest, starting today, shall we? and of course, have faith.

Inside the house that was having a sale...

The condition of the house turned a lot of people away but not me. I had to come back with my daughters that afternoon.
You must be disgusted, probably cringing but to me it was like stepping inside the pages of a fairy tale book. It was dusty, musty, very dark that we even used flashlights.

They enjoyed perusing around, looking at things they've never seen in their whole lives before. It was like a movie set. I loved everything I saw there. I wish I had taken photos of everything so you could see but I know not everyone could love it.

I really loved this crates but at $20 each it was just a lot of money to spare.I wanted my vinyl records in it.


There were a lot of these vintage medicines. The photos came out so blurry because it was so dark.

What do you think? Do you like it or hate it? I don't know why I love it. I don't know why I enjoy old stuff so much. I was probably born on the wrong century. Looking at this stuff and owning these things make me happy. I love being surrounded with things like this. How about you, what era do you enjoy most? I think I'm more into the 1800's and 40's.

Baby baby baby oh...

I went to this cool Chinese/Japanese baby & kid store. My preggy friend and I went gaga over the cool stuff for babies that weren't available years ago. Bummer. They were so many cool gadgets and baby things that you never thought your baby needed! I ended up buying training cups for my three year old who can drink perfectly from a cup just because they were sooo cute!

It has a straw so he loves them. I also found the website of Innobaby and I want more of the things there.

Dimsum Love

We love dimsum. We are so fortunate to be living so close to Chinatown (actually close to everything) in downtown Los Angeles. Good food is just minutes away! We especially love the dimsum restaurants where servers push carts with dimsum. I wish I had taken a photo but I didn't want to be rude plus I was really hungry so that explains it.

Everything was so good that we had to buy more to take home to the kids. I can't wait to go back!

My shop is opening soon. I know I mentioned here before that I won't be opening a shop anymore because it takes so much of my time but I found a way of squeezing a little of this and that until everything just fell into place and voila! It happened!

No definite date yet. I am not ready for that pressure. Let's just say it's opening sooner than you think. I really hope that you drop by my blog so you don't miss it's grand opening day.

Indian Pizza

I don't really enjoy cooking but my family has to eat. haha. I'm pretty good at it I think because I get fat from my own cooking. Well, each day we try to eat healthier. Slowly but surely. So we tend to buy more food now from the farmer's market and Trader Joe's. So now, from time to time, I'll be posting recipes with ingredients that I bought from these places. I encourage you guys to try them because it won't be posted here unless it's family tested, happy tummies guaranteed!

So the first recipe is Indian Pizza that I invented using the garlic naan bread from the freezer section of Trader Joe's. I think one pack of four flat breads is only $1.99 (please correct me if I'm wrong).

What you need:
Garlic Naan bread
Barbecue sauce (or any sauce you want)
ham (or any topping you want)
grated cheese
olive oil or sesame seed oil for drizzling on top
white button mushrooms (or any veggies you want)

What I used:
Garlic Naan bread
black forest freshly cut ham
white mushrooms
barbecue sauce and okonomiyaki sauce
provolone cheese that I cut into thin strips

The process:
This is a quick and easy recipe and the kids love it. First, pre heat your oven to 350 degrees. Take out the frozen naan bread and spread the sauce you want to use, do not put too much and do not allow the sauce to run through the edges because it'll make your oven dirrty. I used barbecue sauce for some and okonomiyaki sauce for the rest. Then, put cheese on top of the sauce,it is important that you put the cheese first before the other toppings because the cheese will hold everything together. Then add your other toppings and drizzle a fair amount of oil on top. Then put them directly on the metal rack of your oven and cook until all cheese on top are melted. Ovens vary and time depends on what cheese you used but based on my experience, once the cheese has melted or is bubbling up then the naan bread is done too. 5-7 minutes is ideal.Turn on the light of your oven so you can check what's going on in there.

Yogurt Love

We had yogurt today. It was sooo good! I brought all the kids and my mom too.

It's self serve yogurt and you can put any topping you want, then they weigh it. It's so cool! pun intended. :)

We can't wait to go back for more! I'll try their crepes made on the spot with nutella and fresh fruits.

Thanks Anthropologie for making me want to paint my house white that I get sleepless nights. You make houses so beautiful, it makes my heart ache. So sweet, it gives me toothache.Your luxe quilts are so gorgeous it makes me want to spend my entire life savings on them. Because they are so expensive and dry cleaning them once in two months is no joke! . And yet I want another one, or two, and more! Goose down feather comforters doesn't look as sweet. Thanks for stealing it's magic!

I want your rusty iron bed frames. Other beds are just not the same. How could you make rusty bed frames and unmade beds look so chic? Not to mention peeling paint on walls, scary halls, old bathrooms,mismatched mugs and unfinished floors. How could you make disorganization look so organized anyway? And why is that when my house is disorganized, it does not look as fly? Oh Anthropologie, why do you do this to me???

These cookies are just to die for. They are so chewy, tiny and delish.

And I've been addicted to anything lavender my whole life. Like lavender ice cream, lavender oil spray from Trader Joe's and this Lavender Dryer bags that smell divine. I can't wait to use it!

If you are planning to have a brunch birthday party, I want to share to you things that I've learned.

1. Do everything ahead of time.
I made a mistake of cooking the pancakes and the meat/rice/egg breakfast meal just three hours before the party. I could have made them the night before and it wouldn't have made a difference because guests could always reheat it at the day of the event. I was rushing all morning and I was still cooking when the guests were coming in.

2. It's better to make more, instead of less. Don't be afraid to make too much of everything because you can always eat them after the party. Don't be afraid to make too many pancakes because you can always freeze them and reheat them long after the party's over. Don't be afraid to buy lots of juices and cereal because these are part of your everyday breakfast. That's the good thing about having a brunch party. Nothing will go to waste.

3. Ask friends to help out. I did everything by myself. My friend helped out a few hours before the party started but she had to leave so I was left to cook, entertain, take photos, do refills, babysit, and everything else that had to be done. I fell ill before the party was over because of exhaustion. Don't be afraid to ask friends and family to help out. You'll be surprised how much they want to help out.

4. Cut the cake before the party begins. Usually the blowing of candles and the cutting of the cake is done at the last minute. If you do it before the party begins, everyone would still be in high spirits, eager to begin to party and it's your only chance to get everyone in the photo.

5. Why I used boxes instead of plates.

If I used plates, there was no way to stack them. The boxes were the perfect solution. Specially that there are a lot of insects in the spring and summer season and the boxes protected the food from the pests. I also bought $1 bowls for the cereal instead of using disposable ones. A lot kinder to the environment. I also did not use disposable cups but instead, I used glass bottles that I already had at home and filled them with different kinds of juices.

6.Don't be shy to ask family and friends to bring some dessert or other things that can be enjoyed for brunch. Like bananas and other fruits, breakfast muffins, or any specialty that they may have. The more food the better and less work for you. Ask them ahead of time if they are willing to bring something. Don't be shy, people are more than willing to share their family specialties.

7.Specify the time. Let them know when it begins and when it ends. I did that and people made other plans after the brunch which is good because you can have the rest of the day off.

8.Send thank you cards or better yet thank you emails.I never do that. I should though. And better yet ask the birthday celebrant to do it herself. It's more personal and thoughtful. She/he should mention what gift they got from the person they are writing to and thank them for it and for coming over.

9.Don't forget the music. Always play some music. There's nothing worse than a party without it.

10.Have fun. Have fun preparing, have fun entertaining, have fun cleaning up. That's what parties should be about. Good times with people you care about.

15th Birthday Party pt. 2

As promised, though late here is part two of the party from last weekend.

My cousins. They enjoyed the photo booth the most. I must have taken about 50 photos of these two.

It was the day of the Royal Wedding so I took my vintage hats for the guests to wear to pay homage to the duke and duchess of Cambridge.

The back drop of the photo booth I made using tissue papers. I love how it turned out.

Pillow fight

I loved that I was able to use things found around my house and used them for different things. Tea pot as a vase and vintage tin can for tea bags.

When the chaos had settled a bit. My friends enjoyed laying down on the quilts under the hot sun.

We played music all day. One of my vinyls melted while it was spinning!

I hope you loved this post. Photo overload! The blue cake is still sitting on my kitchen counter after almost 2 weeks. I can't seem to throw it away.

15th Birthday Party

It was tough but I did it. I was up until 3am watching the Royal Wedding and preparing for the party for the following day then I woke up at 5 and began cooking all the pancakes, the fried rice with beef and eggs. Then I packed them in take out boxes.
I made 15 boxes of pancakes with two pancakes in each box. I made meat/fried rice/2 eggs in over 25 boxes. All in all, I made 30 pancakes, over 50 eggs and 1 1/2 tray of marinated meat and 4 pots of rice! All by myself. Grueling but I made it alive!

We call this 'tapsilog' a Filipino breakfast meal composed of fried rice,eggs and beef. I began cooking at 5am and the brunch started at 10:30am.

The typewriter was for birthday wishes but the kids ended up typing just whatever because apparently, this was quite new to them.

The backyard had vintage quilted blankets so people either laid down under the sun or played pillow fight. I think it was my most favorite spot at the party.

Someone asked me if I could make his special someone some pig cupcakes. He said, she loves pigs and would be psyched to have pig cupcakes for her birthday. I accepted the challenge even if I never made any pig cupcakes or something similar my whole life. I just knew that somehow, I could pull it off.

Gourmet Food Truck Party!

There are a ton of Gourmet food trucks in L.A. but we just got to try some of them today. We were a bit surprised of how expensive the food were, well, it is after all, gourmet so it's like eating at a fancy restaurant but while standing! It was a nice experience though and it was nice to see a lot of hip people gathered in one place. It reminded me of an outdoor music festival minus the music.

Our Weekend

Our weekend was awesome! Like the post below, I had awesome vintage finds and after our thrifting trip we went to a baby shower at a park in Long Beach and the kids had a blast. Oh and I ate too much cake pops (everyone seems to be making these nowadays!). The weather is awesome!

Weekend Vintage Finds

Mom and I went thrift hopping, it's been more than a month since the last time. I had awesome finds. Here are some of them.


I can't seem to have enough of this carnival-esque trunks! I love the globe too.The clown is paper mache and I just couldn't put it down so it came home with me. The light brown bag would be used as a camera bag. The panda bag is a great overnighter bag for my growing toddler and the dark brown is for me, probably when I travel. And the shoes! I've been wanting a pair like these for a long time and I finally found one and it fits me and my girls. Lucky! Definitely no fighting!

I love this tiny battery operated radio. If you zoom, you'll see that they are names of places in Italy. This is an Italian made radio. It went straight to our earthquake kit because it won't need electricity. It's so cute and I love the vintage design.

We dropped by at a thrift store today after having lunch at Round Table Pizza and I found something that I have been quite fond of for quite sometime now but never saw it around. I was surprised to find one today.

I saw one at an Alice in Wonderland party that I went to which I blogged about here

They used it for cold water to sweeten the absinthe.

Well, I found something similar today. Made of crystal and instead of a tiny faucet like above, this one has a pump.

for only $10.00 plus $1 discount because the owner was so nice so, $9.
and this super old tin container.
I'm still undecided if I should use it as a vase or use it as a container for a homemade candle. What do you think?

Mallrats

I love hanging out at the nearby outdoor mall. Well, first, Anthropologie is there. Second, Free People store is just around the corner. Third, my son could play at the playground while I eat a gigantic cupcake from Crumbs.

I got myself a green tea cupcake and an ice cold green tea drink, just so it doesn't sound so sinful.

No more baby, chubby face. I think I'm going to cry!

After eating that huge cupcake, my cousin and I went to eat a giant pretzel and Beard papa's cream puff. Okay, okay, I have no more excuses. I've been so bad that day.

I think I've gained about 5 pounds just from that day alone.

I finally got my cupcake and Anthro fix yesterday. I just had to take photos of my most favorite store so I can share them all with you. I felt like a paparazzo taking photos of famous celebrities while I was there. You know how stores hate it when people take photos of their merchandise and set up. I've been looking for candles that would make my heart skip a beat but I couldn't find anything that did that. But lo and behold, today was special.

I miss my 'by car' posts. If you have been a regular follower of my blog, you would know that I used to write about places we go to but since the price of gas went up, we rarely do go out plus we didn't fit in our car ever since the kids grew overnight ( I swear, I woke up one day and we couldn't fit in the car anymore) but that will change because we just got a bigger car today (that deserves another post though). So anyways, here are the photos from our dinner with friends in Korea Town.

Too much food for only four people but that's how it is at Korean restaurants.

Yesterday, my mister said that he was meeting up an old friend and his wife. I was asked to come along and to my surprise, they live in the same neighborhood that I lived in when I was still a single mother. It was surreal seeing that same neighborhood again after so many years. It was bittersweet. Memories came rushing back in and I was just in awe seeing all the wonderful changes that happened there. When I lived there it was already an up and coming neighborhood, it's in Korea Town, located in downtown Los Angeles. There were chic coffee shops and boutiques near my apartment already but yesterday, I was just shocked to see a huge upscale mall there, hundreds of shops and cafes, a boutique hotel and tons of restaurants! Wow, it was like going back to the past and stepping into the future all at the same time, if you get what I mean. I snapped a few photos just to share it with all of you...

The tall, old brick building used to be my apartment. Back then, you would always find me, alone on the rooftop. I never expected that time will come that I would miss the spooky basement, the eerie hallways that seemed like it came out straight from a classic horror film and the antique elevator that you open and close yourself and would sometimes stop midway! (that was very scary when I get stuck inside it at wee hours of the morning) I should have taken many photos but didn't, not even a single one but every corner of this building would always stay vivid in my mind.

This building lit up at night and this was my view from my fourth floor unit . This was what I stared at many nights as I doze off to sleep.

I was very surprised to see this. This used to be a motel. I stayed here for one week while I was looking for an apartment in the neighborhood. It's now a hip boutique hotel called SHELTER HOTEL (I just love the name!). Isn't it pretty?

It's amazing how life changes when you choose to. You will be amazed if I tell you my life story but I won't. At least, not for now. Who knows? Someday I just might. It's nice to go back and see where I came from and it made me smile to be able to relive the journey of where I've been, where I am now and where I am heading. Things are really looking mighty bright.

I didn't know Krispy Kreme had mini donuts. These things are insanely cute! Too bad though, they only come in 4 flavors.

Have you tried them yet? I think they are much sweeter than the regular sized ones. So, I only ate one.

Bedroom Tour

I know I've featured our bedroom before but there have been a few changes lately so I thought of sharing it with all of you. I am in awe myself of how I've filled our whole house of thrifted finds and things that we got for free from good people. I know you too will be surprised as I tell you the source of each item from the space. I will also be featuring every other room in the house on future posts.
But for now, it's our bedroom...

Forgive me for the blurry photos. I had no idea how difficult it was to take interior design photos until today. The room has only one window so there was no natural light coming in.

I love how our room resembles a bedroom that you would probably see in the 1800's, except for modern technology mixed in. It is quite magical when the candles are lit and moonlight shines in from the wooden blinds. I often imagine, as I lay on my bed that I was born many centuries ago. It makes me feel safe. I can't explain why.

Things on the photo:
the orange quilt was from Anthropologie, it's probably the most expensive thing we ever bought for the room at almost $300 (aside from the tv). I got it for my birthday around three years ago.

The goose down comforter was a hand me down, the same person who gave us the wooden moroccan style desk, chair, all the curtains, rods and wooden blinds in the whole house and wooden candle pillars (amongst other things you'll see around our house)

The wooden dresser was a yard sale find for only $3.00

This antique cabinet was from an estate sale, $150.00

The mirror, we have two, I found one at a thrift store for $6.00 and found another one from the same store, months later for the same price.

One day, I was thinking of this alarm clock/radio that I had back in College. I used to stare at it during sleepless nights and I missed it so much. That same week, I found the same exact radio at a thrifting trip for $2.95. I dream good things to life.

The glass lamps, I have two for both sides of the bed, $5.00 each.

The metal (it's soo heavy!) sunburst mirror was also a hand me down. The antique tv console was a yard sale find for $3.00. Bose speakers for the tv, brand new, hand me down.

Future goals for the room, well, I really want to make it brighter, probably add some punches of color here and there. I'm thinking of painting the walls white too. The floors will also be painted white. What do you think?

15 already?

My twin daughters are turning 15 on the 29th. Fifteen! I kept telling myself that as if I'm expecting to snap out of a dream each time I say it but no, this is real.

I still remind them to do their chores, every single day. They still do not walk the dog like they are supposed to. I still have to beg them to wash their dishes. They still whine when I ask them to cook rice for dinner and dirty clothes are still on their bed every single day. We still argue over the same little things as we did five years ago.They still are like little girls to me and thank God that they do still act like little girls and not running around with boys like some 15 year olds in the world.. Oh my, you would not want to know what kind of 15 year old I was. But anyways, I have only a few weeks to plan their birthday. We had an Alice In Wonderland party last year and this time, we are planning to have a brunch party. I'm thinking pancakes, cereal bar station, pretty sandwiches, well you get the idea. The girls are excited. And me? I hope I pull it off and have fun while doing it.

Spring Cleaning

Yes, it's that time of year again when I turn my house upside down and clean every nook and cranny. It usually takes days, sometimes weeks. All day today I cleaned and organized my cupboards and scrubbed the counter tops and I'm not even done yet. I also said goodbye to things that I don't use anymore that were taking too much space.

I am at the point in my life where I am starving for color. I used to love dark themes but now I am really in the mood for light and bright rooms with punches of bright colors here and there. On Saturday, I will go on a thrifting hunt (haven't done that in weeks!) for a rustic dining table and probably mismatched chairs.

the counter top: You might be wondering what this is. It's an improvised scented oil burner. I found a bottle of chocolate scented oil but no oil burner so I used a vegetable steamer and a measuring cup for making cocktail drinks. There is a tea light inside the veggie steamer to heat up the oil inside the cup. Clever, I know and it worked perfectly, until I knocked it off by accident after I took this photo.


Miniature guitar magnets on the fridge. So cute.

I got this silver Love plate from an estate sale and this rose plant was a gift from a good friend of mine. I want to fill the house with little potted plants, it makes me feel happy.

The smaller jar is filled with condiments from fastfood restaurants, they come in handy on pizza or taco nights at home. The bigger jar is filled with around a hundred tea lights.

We just adore this little grocery cart that I bought last December. Every time we bring it and he pushes his little cart in the store, everyone stops to say how cute he is and his mini cart. He gets tired of it easily though and I end up putting it in my cart but we still love it.

I am not allowed to put anything in his cart. He only wants his stuffed dolls in it and whatever he gets from the shelves which I put back when he's not looking. What is he going to do with boxes and boxes of sugar anyway?

I can't believe I'm already looking for a pre-school for my little boy. Those three years flew by a bit too fast. Soon, he will be socializing with little people and will have a taste of the real world. I really hope that the real world would be kind to my boy and I really hope that he loves it out there. Okay, okay, he is not going to college yet but it sure does feel like he is. I am starting to get more emotional about this but I still have a few months to collect myself and get used to the idea that kids do grow up.

I am so glad I was able to raise a good respectful boy. Yesterday, he patiently waited in line for his turn to go down the slide at the park. And he would apologize when he would bump the kids on his way down. Some kids are so arrogant and would even say the nastiest words you can hear from such a little mouth but I honestly think that they get that from their parents. So, I can't blame them. We are the role models and whatever we do in front of a child is what they will do and say. So, hats off to the parents out there who mind what they do and say because bad words ain't cool specially if it's coming from a child.

In other news, I can't believe how sunny it is in L.A. It feels like Summer. And I also realized that I am not 'physically' ready for summer clothing. I need to start working out more and eating less and I also need warm weather appropriate clothes because all I have in my closet are fur coats. If you look into my closet, you wouldn't even think that I live in sunny Los Angeles. You would think I live in Antarctica!

I rarely see shoes or accessories that make my mouth drop open, for like 5 minutes. I have a very odd taste when it comes to watches and shoes, the weirder the better. I was one of the first people who was wearing the infamous pop swatch back in the day. And I really enjoyed strutting something so unusual that time that no one had, well for a while, until everyone else got one and I had to ditch mine. Lol.

I am so happy to see the flowers around our neighborhood, the sun shining, blue skies and the warm air against my face. It had been a wet and dreary past two weeks and now it's nice to know that Spring has finally sprung. It was quite a late arrival but what matters is that it came.

As a welcome for Spring, we took out our pretty English tea cup set and had some Jasmine tea this afternoon.

Our Weekend

Our weekend was all about food! and good company of course. My cousin spent her birthday at our house and lots of people came over.

We took the turntable out in the backyard where we were having a barbecue and it was awesome to listen to old songs while we enjoyed being with family.

Too bad, I was too busy to take photos.

It was also a very wet week. The rain was pouring like crazy. I'm so glad to see the sun out today.

Biker Girl

I have a prediction. Soon there would be more bikes in the streets than cars. Isn't it more practical? For the environment, financially and health-wise? The sky-high prices of gas is no joke. My mom is thinking of returning her Rav 4 (no more furniture shopping, sniff) and would take the bus to and from work for a whole season and would get a car when the gas prices go down a bit. It does make sense. My mister works from home now (sorry I didn't mention that before) so he isn't really affected by the high price of gas and we rarely go out now so getting a bigger car which we initially planned isn't really necessary.

My mister got a hand me down, almost brand new beach cruiser from our good friend who moved to NZ and as he cruises around our neighborhood, I am left on the side of the street to watch him drive by.

I don't have one. It would have been great if I could use his. I do know how to bike but his bike is so big that I would need a step stool to be able to sit on it (I'm really short, you know) and when I finally get to sit on it, my feet does not touch the floor so it's hard to control the bike. So I am thinking of getting my own, actually I've been wanting one for sooo long now. But now, I can't decide which one to get.

Starbucks is after your big bucks...

The last Starbucks gift card is spent. So I have no more excuse to visit our neighborhood Starbucks. Prior to the gift cards, I was not really a fan of buying expensive coffee. I was perfectly fine with my southern American coffee beans, freshly grounded prior to french pressing then I pour some creme brulee coffee creamer. The best coffee for almost nothing.

The red velvet whoopie pie was pretty, I fell for it, yet again. The price for this cookie could have bought me a whole box of apple turnovers that was on sale at the pastry section of our local grocery. This Starbucks was located inside that grocery. So I was standing there looking at the red velvet cookie and on my right, a whole display of fruit turnovers. Since I could not spend my gift card on the turnover, I had no choice.

Oh my, I was so lucky I didn't have to spend real cash on it (like I did with the cake pops). It was very bland but I guess that was because of the uber sweet, uber spicy chai I was drinking prior to eating it. It was so tiny too.What is up with Starbucks and their miniature pastry fascination? Most of their pastries are so tiny that it's perfect for a little girl's tea party.

House Talk

Here's how our music room/lounge area looks like for now. It isn't topsy turvy anymore but it isn't quite done yet. I am thinking of painting the walls to make the space cozier.

This isn't really my style. My style is more eclectic/old world Paris but this space is quite relaxing and the kids love it.

This side is still not up to par. A lot of guitars are hiding behind the sheer curtains and I am thinking of hanging them on the walls ( All 11 of them!) to save some floor space. I don't know where the bike goes and one more bike coming soon! Any suggestions?

I really can't forget how cozy it is in Anthropologie stores that I am so tempted to redecorate my kitchen and living room, probably paint my furnitures and other things. I love how calm I get when I am in their stores and I really can imagine myself living that way. It is possible but it will take a lot of time and effort. My living room and kitchen is very dark, dark walls and lots of dark furniture... What do you think? Should I go for it?

My son is hilarious. He just learned how to talk and he can't stop. He repeats everything we say and he says the funniest things. He also enjoys reading.He could read even before he could speak. He was sounding out the words or acting them out. He started reading when he was 2 years old. Now, he's three and he enjoys reading his books out loud. I'm a proud mama.

Our Weekend

Our weekend was spent indoors. We rented some movies from Amazon instant video and realized they were too expensive so we decided to get the rest from our neighborhood video store. The cost of one video from Amazon got us four from the video store. We watched Unstoppable, Black Swan, Legends of the Guardians, Dinner for Schmucks and 127 hours.

Of all these movies, the one that struck me the most and the one I might never ever forget was 127 hours. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT!!! It was awesome, the cinematography is superb and the story is remarkable. It is one of the most unforgettable movies I've seen and this is coming from someone who watches 5-10 films a week all her life.

It was raining all weekend. I woke up Sunday morning with the loud sound of thunder. That was quite frightening, I couldn't go back to sleep so I just watched 'The Antonio Treatment and 'Secrets from a Stylist' that I recorded on DVR.

I love watching these shows because we recognize the shops they go to and one time my mister saw his co worker on the Antonio Treatment having her bedroom done by Mr. Ballatore himself.
Oh the perks of living in L.A.!

I didn't blog yesterday to observe the blogger's silence for Japan. Thanks to all the people who did the same thing. I am also thanking everyone who visited the website of For Japan with Love and donated money for our friends there. I wish I can do more.

Today, we will be staying at home with our kids and will watch movies from Amazon Instant movies. We have an Amazon gift card and it is quite convenient to use for watching newer videos. We haven't been going out of the house because of the sky high price of gas. I really do hope that you too will try to conserve gas and opt to have fun at home instead. Children will enjoy playing board games or watching movies, you will be surprised.

I am wishing you an awesome weekend. I am quite excited to go out tonight and see how beautiful the moon is.

I find it surprising how famous bloggers can keep quiet and not even mention what happened to Japan. These bloggers are so powerful and imagine how many people they can inspire or influence to help out. I wish I was a famous blogger, I wish I was a gazillionare, I wish I was somebody so I can do something big to help out over there.I wish I can go there, If I could, I would. It is heartbreaking that I can only sit here, watch and pray. I wish I can do more. I wish that people who can do something would step out of their comfort zone and try to make a change in someone's life there. I know some people might not like what I'm writing here but I can't just keep quiet about it anymore. How can some people still go out and buy expensive purses...that purse would have fed so many people in disaster stricken or third world countries, how can some people party, get drunk or complain about the smallest of things when people are grieving about their families that have died or what they would eat and the fact that the ground they are standing on would not stop shaking. If you care and you are not this kind of person, thank you so much.

I saw this ad on Our City Lights (she has such a good heart,thanks for bloggers like her), please donate if you can, you don't have to give if you can't afford to but if you really want to, you can sacrifice one starbucks drink and donate the money instead, skip a club visit or anything that you can sacrifice if you don't have money to shell out.

I apologize if I am a bit emotional when it comes to this issue. I was once in their position when the big earthquake struck the city where I lived, back in the Philippines. And I saw first hand how these people are going through right now, only what they have gone through (and still going through) is 10 times worse than what happened to us.

Downsizing

Remember this post? Our good friend who moved to NZ gave us almost all his belongings, he left with only two suitcases and a guitar. Here's what our music room looked like (and some of the other rooms in the house looked quite the same)

It is still a work in progress. It changes everyday and I am getting rid of almost all the old stuff we have. We have been doing yard sales and craigslist listings and everything else that we can't dispose, we are donating.
I haven't gone to the thrift store in weeks. I think I wouldn't be going for a very long time. Upon cleaning and reorganizing the house, I've realized how much stuff we have and I must really stop buying.

Seeing the houses that had been ruined in Japan changes how I look at stuff. I learned how to let go of things I do not need easier than I used to. Why do we need so much stuff anyway?

Either way, I am happy that we are blessed with so many things that we didn't even have to spend a single dime on. I am grateful for things that I've bought for almost nothing and for all the free stuff we get from people, companies or other people downsizing. If I tell you how much stuff we get for free each year, you'll be shocked and you might not believe me. Hmmm, I might do a post on that next time.

How about you? Do you have a lot of stuff? Please don't throw them away, your trash might be someone else's treasure. You can do a yard sale, list on Craigslist or ebay or schedule a donation pick up from the Salvation Army. Or why not make a friend happy and give stuff he or she might like.

Oh Hello Cupcake

When we dropped off mail to the post office yesterday, my husband and I sneaked a mini cheap date. At 7 eleven! We had chili dogs with tons of chili and cheese. And I also had this red velvet cupcake. How can I resist?

It's huge and only $1.49. The taste was also good enough to relieve my Sprinkles craving for a little while longer.

A Toy Story

My boy has a lot of toys. Were talking hundreds! We got a bit carried away about having a boy and now we are overwhelmed by all the cars, the stuffed dolls, the trikes, books and so many other things.

There are way too many that I think he is overwhelmed himself. The room is not messy but there are just way too many toys! I was ready to donate some of them until I saw TOY STORY 3!
Oh that movie! That changes everything! That was some stressful film that got me all depressed. Now when I go to his room, I feel like everything should remain untouched.

These are his ultimate favorites, Not shown is Kailan of Ni Hao Kailan, the characters of Dora and Yo Gabba Gabba, oh he loves these little creatures that we even sleep with all of them sometimes.

I am currently cleaning up the house and organizing things here and there but I am quite afraid to tackle his room. I am a bit sentimental when it comes to his stuff but I know I must soon face the fact that I would have to let go of some of the things in there, specially those that he doesn't really play with anymore.

Our Weekend

Our weekend was simple and relaxed. We just stayed at home and went to church as we always do every Sunday. My daughter's best friend also stayed over for the night for the very first time. We played charades and watched 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice".

My daughter hates it when I take pictures of her.
But I saw this shot she took of herself using my camera...

I also don't like it when people take photos of me.
The twins cooked breakfast on Sunday morning. We woke up later than usual and woke up to the smell of pancakes in the kitchen.

We love the Amazon Kindle. If you are thinking of buying a digital book reader, I highly recommend the kindle. You can see the screen very well even under the bright sunlight and it looks just like paper! You can't use most tablet/readers (ipad, Cruz tablet, etc) in broad daylight. Sadly, I dropped this kindle last week on the street but though it had blemishes, it still works perfectly. The surface is rubber so it's more durable than most tablets. An Ipad would have cracked on impact. I still suggest a good skin/cover for your kindle just in case you are as clumsy as I am.

Starbucks jumped on the bandwagon and is now offering Cake Pops on their menu. I tried the pink one, I think the flavor was birthday cake, it was good but for someone who can make one, I don't think I'd shell out another precious $1.50 for another cake pop. Cake pops in my opinion should be sold in threes, one piece is just not worth the price.

Brace yourself for some intense emotions on this post. If you don't like heavy drama, you can always stop reading. And this post is image-less. I don't think it's necessary to post images here.

I know most bloggers choose to avoid the topic and stick to their own little perfect world. I don't have anything against that, it is their blog and they can doing anything they want but I, on the other hand choose to talk about it. I want to talk about what's happening to the world today. All the wars, the earthquakes, the storms.
I am afraid. Very afraid.
As a mother of four, it is a big responsibility to keep a family safe and sound at a crazy time like this. Just the thought of dealing with such a disaster like what happened to Japan tears me to pieces. I was one of the fortunate ones who survived a 7.7 earthquake in July 16, 1990.(You don't have to read the link or this post if you don't want to) I know 8.9 is a lot stronger than 7.7 but the Philippines is not equipped to handle such a strong earthquake. I remember everything like it was yesterday and I've never forgotten. I've thought of it every single day since then. I would not go into details as I don't want to disturb my readers of such a horrific experience but what happened in Japan struck me to the core. Last night, I saw the tsunami on CNN as it tore through parts of Japan like a child playing with his toys and I was dumbfounded and just cried like a baby. I called my daughters, their bedroom is way at the back of the house and asked them to sleep on the couch in the living room instead. We prayed, watched CNN together and I shared some bits and pieces of what I went through on that fateful day in 1990 and then they fell asleep. I watched them as they slept and reality struck me.

What am I doing? I asked myself over and over. My children need me.

Every minute spent together is very important and what was I doing giving them only what time I have left over after working on my website? I don't have any knowledge whatsoever on html codes or building a website and whatever I do on the website takes 10x longer than someone who knows how. And I do it while I cook, while I do chores, while I take care of a toddler and among other things. It is exhausting and most of all it takes time away from my kids.
I've always carried a dream in my heart ever since I was little but you know what, whatever dream we have we can achieve no matter what as long as we want it enough, as long as it is for us.. It doesn't matter if I wait a little until the kids are a bit bigger and independent, if it is for me, it will happen.

As artists, we all have dreams of making it big, famous, and admit it, where money comes easy. We all want that even if we say we don't or else we won't have our online shops but if it means taking away time from your kids who are only young for a few years (which fly by way too fast, by the way) then please ask yourself, is it worth it? It's great if you have a lot of time in your hands and all you have to think of is yourself but if someone is desperately asking for your time ( a mother, a husband, a boyfriend, a sister, a pet...) and you choose to ignore, then please think twice. I've thought twice and here is my decision. Here are my thoughts. Here are things I've came up with that I want to share with you because you my readers, specially those that have stood by me in the two years of my blogging are very important to me so I want to share with you some of my deepest thoughts and new plans.

I am closing my website for an indefinite time. Why?
I don't have the time to make new inventory as of now. Each piece of clothing I make takes hours and hours of designing and sewing and not to mention taking photos of each and everything in the shop. I do everything myself. I don't have a team who I can just assign things to. I do everything from the building of the actual website, the inventory, the design, the concept, the photography, the pricing and on top of that... a family to tend to!

I don't have the money to spare to promote it. Lucky you, if you have $800 to spend on placing an ad on a famous blog but I am a stay at home mom and my husband is the only one who works for a family of 6. Every dollar counts.

The website can wait. Honestly, I am not ready. I have a ton of ideas that would always stay inside of me and would still be in me when I begin again. I constantly have new ideas and if someone else comes up with the same idea, I can always begin something new.

The competition for clothing/vintage is enormous. How can I compete with someone who has the resources and all the time in the world to spend on building a website, adding inventory, promotion and still manage to look chic? I can't do that. So that dream is over.

I am keeping my etsy shops. Why?
I can just list what I have on hand and sit back and let it promote itself. Someday, somehow, someone who is searching for what I've made will find me. I don't have to promote it as much as I would if I had a website. I don't have to have hundreds of inventory to look like I'm serious about what I do. One page is enough. No stress, less pressure, more time with the kids.

I will spend less time online. Why?
Because life is beautiful!!! Ever since I've been working on my website, I've rarely gone outside and enjoyed a sunny day or played outside with the kids. Spending time yesterday at the park was so much fun and I want to do more of that. Go out more, meet new people and do stuff away from the computer. I rarely open my mouth and speak. I type more than I speak. It is amazing how technology works. We speak without opening our mouth, we make friends without ever meeting most of them (or any of them for that matter), we laugh in our mind, we cry in our mind and we type, type, type away. We are people. There are so much to love about reality. I want to run outside and live life to the fullest, instead of spending hours looking at how others live a full life. Yes, I do read blogs for hours. I would still do that but will only do it on my spare time, probably when the kids are all in bed.

I am setting a bad example to the kids. When you come to our house, all you would see are computers and people behind their laptops. My mister is a computer programmer so we have a lot of monitors and laptops around the house and we are all busy doing our own thing for hours... without talking to one another at all. Even the youngest person in the house is always in front of the computer.
He started using the mac since he was only 2. And he would rather play games online or surf on you tube than play with his toys.

I am keeping the blog. Why?
Blogging is really important to me. It makes me feel good that someone out there visits my blog and checks out every now and then what I am up to. It makes me feel special, worthy of someone's time.

I love taking photos and I am able to share them with you here. Photography is very important to me.

I've always kept a diary since I was a little girl. Only now, I do it here on my blog. It's nice to go back on a certain day and relive that day through photos and what I've written about it.

I will spend my extra time thinking of what I really, really want to do.
As a Jane of all trades, master of none, I really have to sit and think what I am really good at and I will focus on one thing, the one thing that I can do for the rest of my life. I know I can't do everything I want to do and expect everything to be successful. I really need to choose one and stick by it.

So that's it. It's out of my chest and I feel lighter. Tonight, the shop will close and www.chickything.com url will be directed to this blog.

I don't know if anyone has read through all what I have written but If you did, I thank you for hearing me out. It took a lot of courage for me to expose my weaknesses, my mistakes. fears and uncertainty but I know that there are good things ahead for myself, my dreams and my family. It's just a matter of setting priorities right now and for now, I choose my children over anything else.

We went to our neighborhood park yesterday. We haven't been there for a while and to our surprise they built an outdoor gym next to the playground! Yay for unhealthy, couch potato mamas like me. So I worked out for 2 hours straight and it felt so good.

Beauty in Madness

Here are photos I took yesterday from the backseat of the car around Los Angeles. Taking photos of what most may not like was not at all intentional.

L.A. is very diverse. Chaotic most of the time but do not judge the people by what you see around. People from Los Angeles are one of the most loving and respectful people in the U.S. Bring a Los Angeleno in say, New York, and he might curl up and cry at night.
I would.

This is L.A. Not the glam parts but I still love it.

I love taking photos of buildings. When I am in downtown L.A., I am like a child who is always looking up. (Why is that when we get older we rarely look up anymore?)I stare at the old buildings like I have never set foot in the city before. I took up Architecture in College and even before that I have always been fond of buildings. It is art and I can't wait to see more of it around the world someday.

It is not L.A. without the extensive graffiti. It is probably the only form of art I do not enjoy. Well unless it's poetry, a political remark or a mural but there is art and there is tagging and those two are very different things.

Farmer's Market Love

We visited South Pasadena's Farmer's Market this week. We swore to buy veggies and fruits there instead of buying from the groceries. Organic produce are much tastier and fresher compared to store bought ones. I even got my kids to eat an all veggie sandwich a couple of times and even their friends were envious of how beautiful it looked compared to their Pb & J's.

Organic produce reminds me of home. All our veggies there are fresh and rarely treated of chemicals. And all eggs are from free range chickens. Our chickens there aren't hormone induced, they are very small unlike the giant, tasteless chickens here.

Eating healthy in the States is not cheap and I don't understand it. I also don't get why the government do not push people to eat healthier.

Eggs from free range chickens $4.99 for a dozen, you can get 36 eggs for $4.99 at a discount big chain grocery. And no, I did not buy these eggs because of the pretty, pink box ( though I am in love with the box), these eggs are just sooo good.

I love these assorted flavored hummus and the Tunisian feta cheese is just delish! These are from Mom's product's ' booth. make sure you drop by their booth if you are visiting this specific farmer's market.

Of course, Carmela Ice Cream! I missed eating this. This time I got Strawberry Buttermilk. I wish I got the usual which is Lavender Honey. $3.00 for a tiny cup. Not kind for the wallet but the memory of it's yumminess will last forever.

Organic strawberries! $3.50 for a tiny basket, $8.00 for 3 baskets. One plastic container for $1.50 at our local grocery. These taste worlds away from the ones in the stores.

Ingredients:
Cheese bread or any bread you like
alfalfa sprouts
lettuce
tomatoes
hummus
feta cheese
olive oil

I used cheese bread that I bought from the Farmer's Market. I used some raw olive oil to grease the pan ( you can use any EVOO) Then I toasted the bread with hummus and crumbled Tunisian feta cheese (you can use any type of cheese, but feta cheese is so good) After toasting both sides, I added all the other ingredients, like the alfalfa sprouts, sliced tomatoes and lettuce. I used all organic veggies.
It's just sooo good, you must try it yourself. My kids love it, no bribing needed.

Beautiful Weekend

On Saturday, we went to a friend's house in Hermosa Beach. He was moving to New Zealand and leaving all his things behind. My mister and I were up very early in the morning, drove there in a truck and hauled all the stuff to where we live an hour away. He was starting a new life in NZ with only a suitcase and new dreams with him and nothing else. How exciting is that? He is a very generous man who gave us not only material things but also knowledge, love and hope to become better human beings. I still have a lot of work to do on that part but what matters is that I want to become a better person, everything else is just up to time and effort.

On Sunday, my twin daughter's friend turned 15 and we were invited. They wore pretty dresses, flowers on their hair and had the chance to ride in a limo for the very first time.
We stuffed ourselves with good food and hung out with lovely people. The place was breathtaking, it was held at the country club overlooking the snow capped mountaintops. I couldn't stop looking at the beautiful view. I realized that some of us become way too busy doing other things that we forget to look up at the beautiful blue sky or the star-filled sky at night. I am so guilty of that.
We often forget to look around us and see how beautiful our surroundings are. The world is so beautiful, people are beautiful. I challenge you to drop what you're doing and look around you and just be thankful that you are alive. Life is beautiful, no matter what we are going through, every day is a gift!

My Little Nook

I have a new work space and I love it. I got this secretary desk for only $6. There were no legs so I took our coffee table apart (which drove my mom nuts) and took the legs and drilled them to it.

I know it's kind of a mess but the good thing is, I can just close the door and hide all the mess. (more photos coming soon) and it has a very old skeleton key to lock all the secrets in.

I love my vintage suitcases. I use them for storage. I can't seem to have enough.
I wonder what places they have traveled to.

This owl used to be dark green, I spray painted it gold. I love how it turned out. This owl is so heavy and very old. I love how it seems to stare at me while I work. I think he loves his new look too.

The vintage apple jar filled with vintage buttons was used for the Alice in wonderland birthday party of my twin daughters last year.

This black house wall cabinet used to be white. It's empty right now, I still have to find more magical things to put inside it. Any suggestions?

Good Morning

I found this French press and bone china tea cup last weekend from our thrifting trip (oh, and the wooden tray too). I'm really enjoying this French press. My mister's friend gave us 2 huge bags of coffee beans from South America and it's sooo good.

I love having coffee early in the morning while the house is very quiet and the whole family is still fast asleep (even the dog!).
This is my me time.

Today is a very busy day. It's nice to have some peace and quiet before tackling such a hectic day. Kids are home bound since it's a holiday today.

I hope we all have a great day ahead of us.

Dreams do come true...

So dream big.

I've been collecting vintage records. I had no turn table but everyday I would go online and look at Crosley turn tables that I could not afford. But I continued to dream. Today, while driving from a Goodwill trip,we saw an estate sale sign. I went in alone and there it was, waiting for me to get her... A crosley turn table. The place was almost empty but the turn table was there waiting for it's perfect owner. I asked how much and whispered a little prayer in my mind. The lady said $25. I only had $15 in my pocket. I asked, "How about $15?". She said yes. I almost jumped up and down but I kept still, wishing that I wouldn't wake up.
I still could not believe it.

It's not vintage but I don't mind. The records are vintage so when you play the records it still has this crackling sound like how I remember it the last time I played records when I was only 11 years old. Listening to Barry Manilow in our living room.

I spent about 2 hours, just listening to some 80's, 70's rock and new wave. I'm in love.

Sniffles

It's freezing in L.A. and rain is expected to pour for one whole week or so. Now, I got the sniffles, not to mention 4 wisdom teeth trying it's very best to drive me insane. (dreading that oral surgeon visit one of these days).
This means, lots of comfort food, hot tea and why not throw in fresh coconut water on the liquid menu which is not only healthy but feels like I'm on some tropical island vacation.

I drank this a lot when I was a kid. Growing up in a tropical country, these coconuts were being sold on the side of the streets. The vendor opens it in front of you and sticks a straw just like what I did on this one. This brings me back to my childhood, I think I'll feel better in no time.

My teas came yesterday. I always get my teas from SUGARBIRD. I first met Miss Kei O. at the Pasadena Farmer's Market but she probably won't remember me anymore. This time though, I ordered the teas from her website.

Baby Love

Dear River,
Please don't grow up too fast. I noticed that your pajamas and pants are already up to your knees and yet I still let you wear them. Your (our) favorite red boots don't fit you anymore and yet we still try them on every now and then, hoping for a little miracle that it would fit again. I know you are not a baby anymore because we can now hold a decent conversation with each other (but only when you feel like it, often times, you pretend that you can't hear anything I say). You are almost as tall as the 5 year olds out there and I don't like it and I'm pretty sure their moms don't like it either.

I miss holding your tiny body in my arms and staring at you for hours, swaddled in your little blankie. Now, you hate blankets, you sleep talk and you take all the space on our bed.

I miss the times when you would eat anything that I give you, no matter how boring or awful, you ate them like there was no tomorrow. Now, you only like to eat ketchup and rice and sometimes in the middle of the night when were already in bed.

You now ask 'are you okay mama?" when I get hurt and you say I'm pretty every time I put on make up or when I'm getting ready to go out. I guess, you growing up is not really all that bad.

But still... Please don't be in a rush.

I have so much art that I am running out of wall space! I think I need a bigger house because I can't stop collecting them. :)

Shoes worth blogging about for sure! These shoes are amazing! They are so comfortable almost feels like you're not wearing anything on your feet. Really!

These shoes are handcrafted and it really treats your feet right. I can't stress that enough. It also has this vintage look that I so love. The design is also kind of masculine and feminine at the same time.

And oh no, they didn't pay me to say these things. I just love my pair that much!

Change

I need change. I need change in every area of my life. I need a new hairstyle, I need a new career, new lifetstyle.... I need change, I can't say that enough. Every nerve in my body is asking for it. I am unhappy about how things are going. Dissatisfied. I know I can do better than this. I just know it.

So these coming days, I am evolving and so is the shop... So is the blog.

The blog will have more of my photography because that is what I enjoy doing.

So why not show you more of that yeah?

I did a little survey weeks ago and the comments were not published but most of the suggestions I got was more photos of my kids and I will give you more of that too.

Oh, for the love of vintage!

Last weekend was heaven. I bought so many things, more than my two hands can handle, (it took me 3 trips inside the store to the car) and all for how much you ask? $14! You heard that right. 14 bucks!
I think I've bought more than 20 items including a coffee table, fur coats, vintage cake stand, a huge rembrandt painting and things that I can't remember anymore.

Here are some outrageously priced items I've found.

I know it's crazy and you're probably sitting there, shaking your head, I am doing the same thing right this minute but smiling!

Eating Right

from my grocery stop yesterday

I am coming to the realization that we mommies are in charge of the health of our whole family. For many years, I've convinced myself that giving my family what they enjoy eating was the way to go but boy was I wrong. I've always thought that I've done a good job when they leave the table stuffed and sleepy. Pigging out on the table meant good food, overflowing plates at every meal that seemed like Thanksgiving dinner was a good thing, but no, after many years of being a mommy, I now realized that this is not the way we should go. I am taking action. I know I've said this before, many times in fact but this time I really mean it. No more homemade cupcakes with sky high butter cream frosting, no more ice cream whenever the kids (and the hubby) want them, no more greasy, unhealthy food and absolutely no more junk! I will carefully be planning meals, more veggies, less meat and I will be juicing fresh fruits again. I will do yoga, walk the dog, go to the park, do the treadmill and watch less Netflix (that is the hardest part really). I am skipping discount grocery stores because we are only tempted to buy cheap, unhealthy food. I will drink less coffee, take multivitamins everyday and drink lots and lots of water. Did you know that I almost do not drink water? I drink about 4 cups of creme brulee coffee a day and lots of tea. I eat a lot of sweets, more than is legally allowed for one person! And I sometimes could eat 3 chili burgers in one day, yes, one for breakfast, one for lunch and dinner. Come on! I am not 16 anymore and even if I was, it's still wouldn't be right. For breakfast, I would bake sugary muffins or would make greasy sausages, bacon, eggs and pancakes or sometimes with rice! And everyone here, feels weak and sleepy instead of feeling energized. I am unhealthy, I live a very unhealthy life and this is what I am passing on to my children?

So if you are a mommy, I challenge you to do this with me. Let us all make our families healthier, shall we? Their health depends on what we put on the table. They would eat whatever we serve them. Trust me.

I want to be healthy and I want my family to be healthy and I am doing this because I love myself and I love them.
